The Mike Slater Show

On an appearance on The Mike Slater Radio Show, co-founder of Saved In America, Joseph Travers, explained the immense need that exists to stop the evils of the sex trade industry. Presently, a pimp, on average, makes around $100,000 on each and every child they traffic. Many drug cartels have quickly learned how profitable the industry is and determined that humans, unlike drugs, can be sold over and over for greater profit over time.

How Sex Trafficking Works

In many cases, the children who end up involved in sex trafficking appear to be merely runaways upon first glance. However, what the experts, like many professional volunteers at Saved In America (made up of private investigators and former police officers and military specialists), understand that these kids are often lured away from their homes by evil predators who operate as a part of a criminal organization like a cartel or gang. In many cases, the kids are enticed to “run away” to begin a better life via social media. This of course is a lie perpetuated by the predators who are highly skilled at their craft and understand what to say, how to say it and when to say it'; slowly but surely earning the child’s trust and undying loyalty, which is what leads them to leave everything they know and end up as a victim of the horrific crime of human trafficking.

San Diego is Facing a Crisis

San Diego is currently the second-largest trafficking sector in the Unite States. This is largely because the area is also the second-largest sector for narcotics trafficking. In most cases, the bad guys who are highly skilled at smuggling and trafficking drugs from this country, to others throughout our country, are also highly skilled at doing the same with human victims. It’s all connected.

How Traffickers Choose Their Victims

While any child can become the unsuspecting victim of child trafficking, predators typically choose children who have experienced some sort of trauma in their lives, like a breakup, a divorce in their family, a death in the family, anything that they can use as a foothold to get into the child’s life and start slowly gaining their trust. Absurdly, it is a fact that in every single middle school and high school in San Diego county, has a gang member stationed for the sole purpose of identifying potential victims. Suffice it to say, human trafficking is a huge problem not just for San Diego, but also nationwide and it is going to take an immense effort to protect our children. #ChildSavedNotSold
