Liberty High

Statistics prove there are recruiters from the human trafficking industry embedded in every middle and high school throughout San Diego County. This means that every school within this county has active predators who are seeking to prey on students. For this reason, Saved in America feels awareness is needed. To get the message out about the horrors of the industry and to teach kids what to look for in terms of grooming practices, SIA founders met with students at Liberty High School in San Diego, California in April of 2022.

Awareness

The students in the audience were made up of a leadership organization. Principal John Luzzi explains that they have meetings regularly to address issues that impact their students and the surrounding areas. Being in San Diego County, one major issue that needs to be addressed is the growth of the human trafficking industry and the dangers that exist all around these students day in and day out. Through the educational session, students learned about the extent of the problem within America in general as well as San Diego in particular. They also learned about the triad of evil that is made up of prison gangs, street gangs, and drug cartels who have now discovered human trafficking as a profitable way to make money hand over fist. Principal Luzzi explained that in the audience there were kids who were in good families and those who weren’t and would be more at risk for this crime. Therefore, it is much more important for the student body leadership to know what to look for and to learn the signs of grooming.

Limitless Gave Back

Before the session was over, SIA was surprised by the student group Limitless, which is an all-girl leadership group at Liberty High School. This student-led organization hosted a self-defense class for women and girls the weekend before the meeting. They charged a fee for this class, which they then donated to SIA to contribute to the ongoing fight against human trafficking throughout San Diego and the entire nation.  The giving spirit and willingness to listen that the student leadership group exhibited should be commended, especially in a society that seems to be moving away from goodness and towards evil more and more.
