The Why

On The Dan Manson Show, the #ChildSavedNotSold Reno Fundraiser was discussed. Event organizer Jenifer Baker along with Saved in America’s Joseph Travers appeared on the show to discuss the fundraising dinner as well as the way that Saved in America is working to curb the human trafficking numbers all over the nation and California specifically.

It Still Can Happen in The Perfect Family

One former human trafficking victim spoke at the fundraising dinner to highlight that every single type of young person is at risk for human trafficking. Although kids who are in unhealthy home situations are indeed more likely to fall victim to human trafficking, this young lady is an example of how it can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Her story doesn’t fit the typical narrative. She had a good family life, with parents who supported and loved her, yet she still fell victim to human trafficking through the immense coercive efforts of the criminals and predators within these human trafficking rings.

The Purpose Behind the Operation and Fundraising Dinner

While SIA always needs funds to further its efforts, the purpose behind this particular dinner is to raise money for a special operation. This operation involves six girls who are missing in the Sparks, Reno area. These cases are the “why” behind this most recent fundraising dinner. SIA works for free, but although the organization doesn’t charge families a dime for their services, it still requires some financial backing to make rescues and restoration and prosecution of the bad guys possible.

The Importance of Supporting Saved in America

While law enforcement agencies throughout the nation care about human trafficking, they are ill-equipped and woefully undermanned when it comes to actually stopping it from happening. Saved in America is made up of professional volunteers who have immense training and skills they have utilized throughout their careers in either law enforcement, military service, or both. In addition, all volunteers for SIA are licensed private investigators who understand the law regarding finding missing kids.  For that reason, they can do what law enforcement simply cannot spend the time and resources necessary to find these missing kids. Therefore, fundraising efforts like this one are immensely important and needed to continue to see kids saved not sold.
