My Corner

A My Corner of the Universe episode covered our own Saved in America and the work they do to save missing and exploited children. Runaway and missing children are highly at risk of being trafficked, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Four of every seven runaways likely become victims of sex trafficking.

How Saved in America Works

In this episode, we see the scene action from a real-world Saved in America operation. It showcases how our organization works to find missing girls and then coordinates with police departments to rescue them. This is made easier and more successful thanks to the donation of a mobile command center by Kristin Gasper. Furthermore, Saved in America also assists after the rescue to help victims of sexual exploitation procure legal representation, safe housing, and even rehabilitative therapy to recover from the trauma they have experienced. All Saved in America’s professional volunteers are licensed private investigators who work regularly with law enforcement to gather intelligence and evidence to locate and identify missing children.

Rehabilitation is a Key Part of the Process

The rehabilitation house that the county has committed $ 2 million dollars to construct will allow victimized children to stay safely in-house for around 14 days. During this time, Saved in America professionals will work to assess the kid’s condition, determining if they need additional help. They will then step in and provide what needs to be done to give the kids the best chance of recovery possible. This can include medical resources, research for other rehabilitation centers, and even helping the victims and their families prosecute the perpetrator responsible for their abuse.

The Problem is Immense, the Workers Are Few

Unfortunately, the sheer scope of the human trafficking problem as it stands today in America is almost unfathomable. Some 300,000 children will go missing every day across this great land. Of those, around 30% or 100,000 will fall victim to the human trafficking industry, today’s modern-day slavery. Thankfully, Saved in America is on the job and working tirelessly to combat this horrific trend sweeping the nation. Saved in America can only do their work, though, through the generous donations of individuals and organizations.
