Inspiration

Veterans One episode 9 features special guests, Executive Director Joseph Travers and Special Operations Lead Operators and former Navy SEAL Toshiro or “Tosh” Carrington of Saved in America appeared and spoke about the inspiration for Saved in America and how this group is part of the solution to the rise of human trafficking in America. The former careers of both men were the perfect preparation for fighting evil on the home front once their careers were over.

The Numbers

The inspiration to start Saved in America came from many areas. However, the numbers in terms of how big the problem human trafficking is was, of course, a large part of the inspiration. In America, at any given time, there are some 300,000 missing kids. Of those that are missing, around one and seven will be victimized by the human trafficking industry. This means that within America’s borders, some 100,000 kids are victims of human trafficking within America at any given time. This huge number is a devastating realization.

Scholarship in Honor of Brittanee Drexel

Another inspiration to found Saved in America came in the form of the Brittanee Drexel case. This shocking case, which captivated the nation, saw a young teenage girl being kidnapped by traffickers, abused, and then killed. As a way to honor her and to further prove that she was a key inspiration for the founding of Saved in America, during their annual fundraising event, SIA awards the Brittanee Drexel scholarship to a deserving survivor of human trafficking. This keeps Brittanee’s name at every fundraising event and continues to showcase the fact that her life was an inspiration to so many.

Continuing to Fight

Saved in America and its team of volunteers willingly give their time and expertise to continue to fight back against the horrors of human trafficking. Since drug cartels have now entered the picture and have learned that they can make money off of human lives as a commodity, the problem of trafficking has only grown more prevalent. Therefore, groups like Saved in America have to continue to fight back against these groups who want to profit off innocent human lives. This episode explains the reasoning or inspiration behind this desire to fight back even more.
