Darrell Mansfield
Darrell Mansfield, a friend of Saved in America and a member of the Blues Hall of Fame, wrote a song for Saved in America about the horrors of the human trafficking industry. This video shows Mansfield performing the song, which features sections of testimony from real-life victims of the industry who tell their story of tragedy turned to triumph. At Saved in America we are happy to call Mansfield a friend and are proud of this song he produced and the powerful story it tells.
Human Trafficking in America
The message communicated by the song and known by Mansfield and our organization is a sad reality. Sex trafficking, known as modern-day slavery, is not only present in America, it is thriving. Victims are primarily young girls/teenagers, but this industry can victimize boys as well. Victims come from all walks of life and virtually all economic backgrounds, meaning anyone can become a victim of this horrific industry that is backed by a triad of evil made up of prison gangs, street gangs, and cartels.
Commodity
As part of the performance by Mansfield, some former victims of the industry explain the way that they were treated like a commodity instead of a person. Their humanity was all but stripped away by the predators of the human trafficking industry, which is part of their strategy. Girls are slowly coerced and brainwashed and are then abused and beaten until they have no self-worth or feel there is ever hope of rescue. Many of them are addicted to drugs as well, which is another tool of the industry to further enslave their victims.
Saved in America Fighting Back
Thankfully, our organization, along with the help of special people like Mansfield, is fighting back against the human trafficking industry. SIA works to find a missing girl before she is taken into the horrors of a human trafficking ring. Often, we are contacted by parents to find a missing child. Law enforcement is overwhelmed and undermanned to do the time-intensive work of surveillance and research necessary to find the missing girls. Thankfully, organizations like Saved in America are continuing to fight back against these horrors, and we are so thankful for the help of Mansfield to get this important message out and to create awareness that this is a serious risk all over the nation.
