Bissonnet
As an example of art imitating life, the movie ‘Bissonnet’ is revealing the dark recesses of the human trafficking reality in Houston, Texas. The movie based on the strip in Southwest Houston called Brissonnet Street showcases the unsavory exploits that take place in that location where human life is put up for sale. “People for sale,” a term that doesn’t even sound right to the human ear is a reality that is plaguing Bissonnet Street in real life. Houston filmmakers came up with the idea of using cameras to tell this horrific story. Of course, the primary motivation behind creating this film is to bring awareness to those who might not know the reach of the human trafficking industry even within the perceived safety of America’s borders.
It’s Happening Everywhere
As stated by actress Denise Monet who also is a writer and producer for the movie, “It’s heartbreaking. I have people that I know personally that have experienced this. So, that was something I wanted to make sure I told the story realistically.” Monet goes on to explain further the purchase behind the film, “We wrote this film to let people know this is something we want people to get out of, and not be part of this lifestyle.” Sadly, Houston ranks #2 in the nation for human trafficking, so the movie is showcasing a scary, yet accurate reality.
The Film is Made to be Realistic
Speaking more of reality, the director and other professionals involved in this movie wanted to make sure it painted a realistic picture. Monet said even more about this, “You are going to see some dark and scary and gritty things in the film” The film is premiering May 6, 2023, and will be showing at the Studio Cinema Grill on Highway 6.
Awareness is Key
Although we at Saved in America are headquartered in San Diego, another hotbed for human trafficking, we applaud efforts like this to get the word out about the realities of human trafficking in America. It is a scary world we are living in today and the more people know of the dangers that are out there, the more likely they are to recognize the evil that is right down the road from them.
