Pimp Sentenced

Tyrone Miles was recently sentenced for the crime of prostituting girls at a Queens hotel according to the Daily News. Miles, along with his partner Bryant Lowery, acted as pimps, locking two teenage girls in rooms at the hotel where they were forced to perform sex acts in exchange for cash. Miles kept the girls in line by threatening to kill one of the girls, a 16-year-old if she did not comply and tell other customers that she was an adult. The young girls, aged 16 and 17 were kept in separate rooms where they were constantly monitored and prevented from leaving.

The Escape

Thankfully, the younger of the two victims took advantage of being left alone and made her escape. She left and fled to another establishment where she contacted her family to come get her. According to Queens DA Melinda Katz, “The defendant tormented and degraded his victims. I commend these young ladies for their bravery during this case. The brutal exploitation they were subjected to, and that countless others are experiencing is why my Human Trafficking Bureau is so important.”

The Sentence

Miles will face a six-year prison sentence followed by five years of probation. Both defendants in this case will be registered as sex offenders. This situation is just one example of the countless human trafficking crimes that go on throughout America. Many times, girls are unable to escape or have been lured into the world of a crime to such a degree that they don’t even attempt it. Thankfully, Saved in America works on just such cases to track down girls who have gone missing and reunite them with their families.

Why SIA is Necessary

Law enforcement is generally overwhelmed with these types of cases, especially in high-number regions like California. That is where SIA comes in and provides an important service for families, serving as licensed private investigators to help find missing girls before they are victimized by this horrendous industry. Their work doesn’t stop there, though, as they also follow up and get the victims the help they need to recover from the trauma they have experienced and offer their legal services to hopefully obtain the right convictions for these criminals, getting them off the streets. While this particular case did not involve SIA, it is a good reminder of why organizations like SIA exist and the importance of their continued efforts.
