Rescued Survivor
Not all families are a picture of perfection with the house and white picket fence, two parents, two kids, and a dog. Some families are full of trauma. Some are full of abuse and some are full of conflict and addiction. Thankfully even families who are less than ideal can come out the other side of a horrible situation and find themselves in a healthy, productive place. This rescued survivor story is an example of just such a situation. The identities of both the mom and daughter in this story have been disguised for their protection.
Struggling Mom
This story of survival begins with a mom, a former addict, who was fighting to get her daughter back. Her daughter, a current addict, had been victimized by the human trafficking industry and was presumably living on the streets going from high to high, just trying to get her next fix. The mom, now clean, was fighting to get her daughter back into her home, off drugs, off the streets, and away from human trafficking.
Saved in America Joined The Fight
The mom in this story contacted SIA to help her find her daughter and work to regain custody. They helped her by tracking down leads and taking her desire to be a mom, one who was now clean, seriously. They eventually found her daughter and the girl said she would go back and live with her mom. This was only made possible thanks to SIA’s efforts to help the mom find her daughter and convince her to come back home.
The Daughter’s Story
After rejoining her mom, the daughter had no intention of staying clean. She was still an addict and simply saw joining her mom as another way to get access to a fix. Thankfully, though, after a great deal of help and completing her education, she is now clean. Today, she holds down a full-time job that pays her pretty well and her long-term goal is to become a drug and alcohol counselor and help other young people like herself get out of the lifestyle for good. She understands that many times these kids want to speak to someone who is like them, closer to their age, who has been through it themselves. They want to feel heard and seen. They want hope, and her goal is to give it to them.
