A Great Tool
The Department of Homeland Security labels the problem of human trafficking as modern-day slavery. It involves the force, fraud, or coercion of a person to do some type of labor or commercial sex act. This problem is massive and only growing more so within the United States of America. It is far from an isolated issue and affects families of all races and economic backgrounds. Thankfully, our organization, Saved In America has an awesome tool we have launched to address this issue and serve as a mobile command center to oversee multiple recovery missions at once.
The Mobile Command Center
The Mobile Command Center for Saved In America is a 37-foot-long camper that has been specially equipped with all manner of technology, such as drones, electronic gear, and more, in order to find sex trafficking victims all over the nation. It also serves as a safe, sheltered place for families to stay if they accompany the team on a recovery mission to find their child. Our founder, Joseph Travers explains the importance of this mobile command center and how it has helped Saved In America accomplish even more:
“We are doing multiple recoveries at the same time, so we needed one central point of communications and a central point to put all our electronic gear, so we could accomplish what we need to accomplish.”
Why It’s Necessary
Time is of the essence when it comes to runaway kids. Finding them before the predators and pimps of the human trafficking industry is imperative. The command center is an essential part of the tool kit for the professional volunteers who make up Saved In America. Consequently, there have been more than 260 children recovered from the horrors of human trafficking by their efforts. An amazing 60% of these kids were rescued before they were approached by traffickers or sold into the industry. This is amazing, because according to Sand Diego County Supervision Kristin Gasper,
“Within 48 hours of being on the streets, one third of these children are lured or recruited into the underground world of prostitution and pornography.”
This showcases the importance of tracking down these kids fast and getting them out of the situation, making the mobile command center a truly incredible asset! #ChildSavedNotSold
