The following is the six-step plan utilized by Saved In America (SIA) based on the book by Joseph A. Travers entitled the Investigation of Missing and Exploited Children: The Gateway of Child Sex Trafficking. Understanding these steps within the rescue process can help you recover your missing and exploited children as quickly as possible from the negative exploits of gangs and sex trafficking members:

Record

The first step of the recovery process implemented by SIA is to record. This means to gather intelligence and often involves the initial contact of parents or a person who has custody of the child. The first step for SIA after receiving a tip or information that a child is missing is to then contact the parent, unless they themselves were who initiated the contact. A legal power of attorney is then sent to the parents to sign, which gives the SIA team the legal power to coordinate with law enforcement, rehabilitation services and government agencies on behalf of the missing person. It also gives SIA the legal right to conduct surveillance through computer intelligence, friends and family members of the missing, runaway or trafficked victim.

Examine

The next step SIA will take on your behalf is examining various types of evidence, from social media networking to initiating the intelligence investigation matrix. The idea is to create workable, intelligent data or evidence that is then utilized to help develop law enforcement relationships. In other words, the SIA law enforcement liaison or team member will begin working with local law enforcement to create a team approach to find and locate the missing person.

Summarize

The third step is to summarize the social investigation and other intelligence, preparing a case management system and further examining investigative pictures, reports, videos, etc., turning them into actionable leads. This includes reviewing and investigating all potential valid intelligence. All reports are shared with the lead missing detective or local law enforcement agent actively working on the case.

Coordinate

The fourth step of the SIA rescue process is coordination with law enforcement. In other words, SIA will locate the missing child based on contacts and actionable, verified leads, then contact law enforcement to then develop a recovery plan.

Unite

The fifth step initiates the recovery plan by first properly identifying the missing person and executing a recovery. The SIA definition of “child recovery” is a child that is transported, voluntarily returns or arrested back in the custody of their guardian or rehabilitation facility, or the verified location of the child is given to law enforcement for recovery and there is no longer a high risk for human trafficking. Please note that recovered victims can be trafficked and recovered multiple times.

Equalize

The final step of the rescue process will ensure that the now recovered missing child is on the road to recovery. This can, of course, include criminal prosecution and/or civil prosecution. The case against the criminal’s responsible for the missing and exploited child’s disappearance or entrance into sex trafficking can be further proved and substantiated by the SIA case manager thanks to the level of intelligence that SIA will gather to support each case. Recovery is a life long process for victims who have been trafficked. We are happy to assist families every step of the way.
