Technology & SB 145
A KUSI Evening News piece hosted Saved In America and looked at how the SB 145 law is troublesome for the war on human trafficking. It also gives an overview on the problematic nature of technology in the industry.
How Bad is Sex Trafficking in San Diego?
Currently, San Diego ranks number two in sex trafficking cases, nationwide. This is a terrible statistic to be second in the nation as it indicates the immense scope of the problem as it exists today. Furthermore, sexual predators are adapting to meet today’s young people where they are and are becoming more and more prevalent online, meaning they are more apt to begin contact with minors through these digital means than ever before.
How Much of a Problem is Technology as it Relates to the Sex Trade?
Technology presents a huge problem as it gives predators access to the most vulnerable among us, our children, even in their own homes. Statistics show that one in every seven child who own and/or operates a smartphone regularly will receive a “sext” by the time they reach the age of 10. Another equally troubling stat reveals that one in every five kids have been sexually solicited online. Predators know how to find kids and understand the apps they can utilize.
Take Note
Aside from the digital access to children, action taken my delegates such as Governor Newsom who signed the highly controversial SB 145 bill into law, only serve to move us all further away from combating child sex trafficking. We must pay attention and take note of the laws and policies being executed and implemented to ensure our children are protected and safe. #ChildSavedNotSold
